Beirut, Lebanon: Nightlife
Beirut nightlife is one of the craziest things I have ever experienced. Where I stayed, an area called Gemmazyeh, it seems as though it has the layout of a college town, despite the fact that AUB (American University in Beirut) is actually across town. Rue Monot is one street with nothing but bar, after bar, after bar, and the Lebanese certainly do enjoy drinking.
There's really not much more to say about Beirut nightlife--it's seven nights a week, even though people need to get up for work the following morning, I assume...
The people in the first picture are also worth mentioning--Two Canadian guys and four New Zealanders (or, "Kiwis"), whom I met at the hostel I was staying at in Beirut. The Canadians had bought a car in the UK, and since September they have been driving it across Western Europe through Eastern Europe, and down and around into the Middle East. In Istanbul, they met the Kiwis, and have been traveling together ever since.
One of their planned stops is in Cairo in about a month. I've offered to let them stay with me for a couple of days if they want. I hope they take me up on it.
In the other picture that has me in it, I am there with my Iranian-Canadian friend (the guy), and another friend from Amsterdam (the gal). Here is where we met Rabeah, who would eventually invite us to his apartment for his New Year's Eve party, which is a whole other posting....
Rabeah kept buying everyone drinks, champagne, etc., in true Middle Eastern hospitality form...
